ΠΙΑΝΟ

Ο θαυμαστός κόσμος της μουσικής γίνεται γνωστός στα παιδιά μέσα από την γλαφυρή αφήγησή της και την πλούσια εικονογράφηση που την συνοδεύει. Το μουσικό όργανο είναι ο πρωταγωνιστής στην εκάστοτε ιστορία - παραμύθι. Τα τεχνικά χαρακτηριστικά του οργάνου διακρίνονται μέσα από την πλοκή του παραμυθιού με τρόπο απλό και κατανοητό για παιδιά μικρής ηλικίας. Χρήσιμες πληροφορίες όπως, είδος ήχου, μορφή οργάνου, οικογένεια στην οποία ανήκει, διακρίνονται μέσα από την ροή της ιστορίας.

Το συνοδεία, έτσι ώστε τα παιδιά να έχουν την ευκαιρία να ακούσουν και όχι μόνον να δούν την εικόνα του μουσικού οργάνου που περιγράφεται.

VINTAGE BOOKS EVERY CHILD SHOULD READ

                             Babar and Father Christmas by Jean De Brunhoff

 Babar goes looking for Father Christmas because he wants to ask him to visit Elephant country. He searches all over Paris and finally ends up in the North Pole and finds after much effort Father Christmas. I love the details in this book, as a child I would lay looking at the pictures of Santa’s workshop and imagine what visiting it would be like. As an adult I appreciate the smallest details like how Father Christmas’s flying machine (not a sled) has P.N #1 on it , meaning of course Pere Noel #1.

                                                          Strega Nona

 I love the author’s interpretation of the familiar magic pot folktale . Strega Nona’s magic pasta pot is very powerful and when a villager thinks he can control it hilarity ensues.

                           Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson

is the classic story of Harold who draws his own world and goes on great adventures only to realize what he wants to draw most is a home to come back to. This is a story about imagination, problem solving and one really cool and apparently unbreakable crayon. 

                                            Leo the Late Bloomer Read Along

This book it’s a simple story about Leo who isn’t doing what all the other animals his age are doing. His dad is more than a little anxious but Leo blooms in his own good time. I loved this book as a child. As the youngest child, I always felt behind the curve always having to play catch up. I could relate to Leo.  As an adult, vintage books like this are more for parents and is a great reminder to chill out. Let our kids bloom in their own time and in their own way.

                                          Sylvester and the Magic Pebble

 Sylvester is a little donkey who finds a magic pebble and after discovering that it grants wishes he makes a terrible mistake and turns himself into a rock. As a rock he is unable to wish himself back into a donkey and is left to sit silently while his parents are frantic, search and finally grieve. Sylvester almost gives up himself until by chance his parents come across his rock and the magic pebble and he turns back into his “true self”.

                    Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!

It’s not a story about a whining little boy so much a lesson that sometimes things do not go our way. Days can suck. It’s just the way it is. As a child, I related to Alexander’s feelings of frustration and things being unfair. How often to you hear a child say “No Fair!” probably a lot. This book taps into that feeling, being little is hard. But just because you are mad, or your day was bad, doesn’t mean you get your way.

 The book counts from 0-20 by 2s but each page has multiple depictions of each number including dots to count and the number in the text. 

The Grumpy Morning

The book follows all the animals on a farm as they wake up grumpy and hungry and needing attention from the farmer. As a teacher I love this book because I could talk about whining, and demanding and ask my students if there are better ways to get what you want. As a parent I love it because the text is musical and my son loves seeing all the animals and what sounds they make since he is still a little young to appreciate the lesson about feelings at 16 months.

                                                  Does a Cow Say Boo ?

What I specifically liked about this was that each animal didn’t just say one sound instead the author includes a few for each. The illustrations are cute and cheery and the end of the book is a surprise for young readers … 

                Sally's Visit to the Farm: A Kids Yoga Farm Read-Along Book 

 Sally is a black lab who goes to the farm to meet Molly a yellow lab and see what it’s like to be on a farm.  It’s text is very very short but the illustrations are magnificent.   giggle at the dogs drinking milk  from a cow being milked. Does that really happen on a farm?

BABY Says Moo!! BOOK READING. phonics. Preschool learning.

 In it the baby and  family go from the city to the farm asking about the sounds the people and animals make around them. No matter what the baby says “Moo” . The text is sweet and rhymes and the bright , colorful illustrations are so adorable. Very sweet book for children learning about animal sounds.

                                    BOB by Tracey Campbell Pearson

is a goofy story about a Rooster who doesn”™t know how to cock a doodle do ! He asks his barnyard friends but they are cats, dogs, cows and more. He learns how to meow , bark and moo! Eventually he does find an older rooster to show him the ropes but it”™s the other sounds that end up saving Bob and his friends from a sly fox. I Really enjoyed the book, my son thought it was funny and the message about learning about other languages is a lovely one to teach your child.

DUCK ON A BIKE

the message is awesome too. Just because it”™s never been done before doesn”™t mean that you shouldn”™t try! Also how cute is a duck riding a bike? Kids even young ones get the message loud and clear as well!

i see a lot of different opinions and thoughts out there, but ii do not see one similar to mine. To me this is representative of the Buddhist teachings of compassion. The man was in the woods to learn about the world, as one wishes to learn throughout their lifetime, taking care to log and take minor pieces of what he found but not to kill or damage the life around him. Upon seeing the (let us call her) Spirit he was curious and compelled. He removed his study tools to move closer to her, yet she did react cautiously, as life is afraid of suffering. Spirit herself is intrigued by the man but not his knowledge, as the spirit of love desires companionship and cares not for the minor truths of life. When he slips this shows the ease of failure for mankind and their helplessness in life. Her tearing her own life bond is showing the act of selflessness the Buddha does have. While he recovered she watched over him, showing the steadfastness needed in ones journey toward enlightenment. Their joy is that of the spirit of life re-uniting with the spirit of compassion. Her sickness, and the spread of it, shows that all things must end and the fear of suffering within all living beings. His concern in following her shows the true Buddha nature within all of us. Their joy of last moments shows that within suffering one can still find peace and compassion. The lotus flower coming into being after the man and the water lily spirit pass show that once we accept our Buddha nature and let it grow despite the sufferings and temptations of life (this is a teaching, temptations are not really shown) we can come to a state of enlightenment that needs not attachments to the world but can remain within to show the beauty of Buddhahood and the unending cycle of life as each life is closer to enlightenment. In Buddhism, the lotus flower is a very important symbol of compassion and enlightenment.

                                                  Sweet Cocoon - ESMA 2014

At first I felt sad for the ending. Then I realized the real meaning of “sweet cocoon” was something that you get easily by stealing other’s efforts. The fat lazy caterpillar didn’t try to built its own cocoon step by step. Instead, she took someone else’s cocoon which obviously didn’t fit her and yet she still tried to make it her own. I think the ending was trying to imply that even if you succeed from taking short cuts, the success won’t last for long because it doesn’t really belong to you.

For the ones who don’t know the story. She was a young Japanese girl who had gotten leukemia after the nuclear blast from WW2. And in order to get granted a wish, she had to make a thousand paper cranes. She did it at home, school, and in the hospital where she died. Praying on each one, “ I wish I’ll get better” they hung in her hospital room until the very end, but she didn’t make it to a thousand, I think she was 300 off. Her classmates and family finished the rest of them
